young professionals from trades, service and technical programs
around the world gather to showcase their talents and abilities.
This thrilling, high-performance, four-day WorldSkills Competition
is the biggest event of its kind. WorldSkills
International was established in 1950 and today is made up of
51 member countries/regions. Participants compete for gold, silver,
and bronze medals - striving to excel in world-class standards
in 45 categories, ranging from cabinetmaking to web design. This
is more than a head-to-head challenge between aspiring professionals;

association with members responsible for promoting vocational
education and training in their respective countries/regions.
WorldSkills International's mission is to promote, through the
cooperative actions of members, a worldwide awareness of the essential

professionals. WorldSkills reminds us that skills, trades and
technologies professionals play a crucial role in the success
of the modern global economy.
Gardenex & Green Living Fair 2010 & 2011
will provide the plaform for identified landscape students to
showcase their abilities and skills to the run up of the very
competitive WorldSkills 2011 in London. The competition is open
to all education providers, nationwide, that feature landscape
certification in their curriculum and to students who are enroled
for landscaping. Entrants will be evaluated by the South African
Workskills appointed judges, Terry Moller and Rick Smit together
with Services Seta. Six students will be selected and in accordance
with the WorldSkills criteria be trained to participate in London
in 2011. From this group, 2 students will be chosen to represent
South Africa at the WorldSkills London in 2011.
Gardenex & Green Living Fair is proud to be involved with
Lafarge Cement and the World Skills programme as we strive to
develop the skills of our local talent. Over the course of the
3 days at the show, students will develop a small landscaped area
that will surely test their knowledge and skills.

Don’t
miss the cooking demonstrations with Tanya Visser and the amazing
team of chefs from Southern Sun Hotels. They will be cooking up
a storm over the 3 days, showing you just how to prepare delicious
meals using home grown vegetables and herbs. 
On top of this, the recipes they are preparing will be made available
to visitors at an amazing price, the proceeds of which go to Child
Welfare South Africa.

Tanya
Visser is back with Ready Steady Plant. Sit back, encourage your
favourite landscaper and celebrity and enjoy a barrel of laughs
as contestants have 20 minutes to design and build a small garden.
Ready Steady Plant competitions are held throughout the weekend
so be sure to be there when the fun starts.
THE LAUNCH OF THE NEW MARA LOUW ROSE
On
Saturday 27 March 2010 Ludwig Taschner of Ludwig’s Roses
will launch the new Mara Louw Rose to honour one of South Africa’s
favourite musicians. This stunning Hybrid Tea has been specifically
developed by Ludwig’s Roses to reflect Mara’s passion
for her country and fellow South African. This unique rose will
be available at the show for you to view.

Royal
Canin once again will thrill cat lovers with 2 kitten shows to
be held in the Cat Hall on Saturday 27 March and Sunday 28 March
2010.
Some of the country’s most exquisite show kittens will
be on display and you will have a chance to speak to the breeders
themselves to find out more about many of your favourite breeds.
